Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage
In the Foundation Stage the Early Years practitioners are:

FS1 refers to children aged 3-4 years.
FS2 refers to children aged 4-5 years.
The FS1 children's day starts at 8:45 a.m and finishes at 11:45 a.m.
The FS2 children's day starts at 8.45 a.m and finishes at 3:10 p.m.
Learning Diary and Picture Books
When your child begins attending school they will be given a learning diary and a picture book. The learning diary book will form a link between home and school, whereby we both can communicate about events and learning experiences your child has had, homework and any other messages. As part of your child's homework they will be able to choose a picture book to take home to look at and you read it with them, this will assist the development of early reading and a love of books. In FS1 the books will be changed once a week, in FS2 we will encourage the children to change them each day. FS2 children will bring home a reading scheme book as the children learn to read and maths games to encourage their development of problem solving. Later, the FS2 children will also bring home sound books and word wallets for you to teach them at home.
Talking about the 'Whole Child'
Your child's wellbeing and education is of great interest to us and is obviously to you, therefore there is always time where we will be able to chat to you about your child settling in and their overall wellbeing and development.
'Stay and Play'
This is an initiative in the Foundation Stage whereby, once a term, we'll encourage you to 'stay and play' with your child for a short time to see what happens at school and to appreciate the importance of play.
Your child will also be given a learning story where they will be involved in gathering photos of themselves to stick in and talk about them to consider their learning journey experiences.
If your child is absent from school, please telephone the school on 01634 335959 and send a note on their return. If your child is unwell at school we will contact you to collect them.
In accordance with the rest of the school please do not let your child bring toys to school unless it is for a specific topic.
School updates directly to your phone
Please download 'The Pilgrim School' app to your phone to receive alerts, view newsletters and calendar dates as well as other important information.
For android devices the app can be downloaded from Google Play:
For Apple devices the app can be downloaded from the App Store
School milk - please make sure that you have filled in your child's school milk form as they are entitled to this free until they are five.
Please could you make sure that your child's name is in all of their clothing, such as jumpers, coats, PE kit, book bags, shoes, etc., and also remove all jewellery on forest school and PE days.
It would be appreciated if every child brought a change of clothes with them to school that they can leave on their peg, as little accidents can happen! And also a pair of wellies as we do get messy and wet!
Lastly, don't hesitate to come and talk to us about anything concerning your child's wellbeing and development, no matter how big or small!
Many thanks from the Foundation Stage Team.
